Rigid Foam Insulation Over Studs/Non-insulating Sheathing

Woodn’t You Prefer Continuous Coverage?

Woodn’t You Prefer Continuous Coverage?

When only wall cavities are insulated, fully one quarter of the wall surface is left uninsulated. That’s because wood framing – studs, window frames, door frames and headers – makes up 25 percent of the wall surface in typical wood frame construction.

When installed directly over studs or over OSB or other non-insulating sheathing, rigid foam insulation provides continuous coverage and dramatically reduces the potential for condensation and resulting moisture problems inside the wall.

If adding rigid foam over studs or non-insulating sheathing is unfamiliar to you, we suggest visiting the Building Code Resource Center to learn more about ways to maximize the use of rigid foam insulation. Also, be sure to download the detailed installation instructions in this section or contact us with specific questions.
