Utility Lines

STYROFOAMâ„¢ Brand Extruded Polystyrene Insulation products have proven to be economical, long-term solutions for geotechnical applications.

To keep them from freezing, buried water and utility lines are normally installed below the maximum expected frost depth. An alternative is to install STYROFOAMâ„¢ Brand HIGHLOAD Insulation (40, 60 or 100) above the utility line to create a winter barrier against heat loss from the soil surrounding the utility line. This eliminates the need to bury the line below the frost depth and reduces the significant cost of installing and maintaining the lines.

STYROFOAM™ Brand HIGHLOAD Insulation is also a cost-effective and labor-saving way to protect existing utility lines. With no need to dig completely to the buried line, the insulation can be laid in less time.
