GREAT STUFF™ Insulating Foam Sealant, along with a variety of Dow Building Solutions building envelope products, have received the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Research Center Green Approved mark, making them eligible for earning points under the National Green Building Standard towards the green certification of a building. The Dow Chemical Company is the first manufacturer to have both its energy saving insulation and air sealing products receive this recognition. In 2007 the NAHB and the International Code Council created a standard definition of what is meant by “green building.” To streamline this process, the NAHB Research Center Green Approved mark is intended to assist builders, designs, and specifiers in identifying products that can contribute points toward building certification. Additionally, during field inspections it helps verify that the claimed “green” practices have been incorporated into the building.
“Both builders and homeowners use GREAT STUFF™ to help improve a structure’s energy efficiency,” explains Amy Millslagle, strategic marketing manager for Dow Building Solutions, North America. “With the NAHB certification, builders can use our products and know that they are one step closer to meeting mandatory energy efficiency requirements or earning points towards overall energy efficiency goals,”
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that insulating and air sealing a home can save up to 20% of heating and cooling costs. GREAT STUFF™ can be used on new construction and remodeling projects, in attics, basements, and to seal gaps and cracks in a home’s living space. Under the new American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, homeowners may be eligible for a tax credit of up to 30% of the amount paid for qualified energy efficiency improvement projects, including the purchase GREAT STUFF™. If you are building a new home, ask your contractor to use NAHB “Green Approved” products.
NAHB “Green Approved” products manufactured by The Dow Chemical Company include all STYROFOAM™ Brand Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) Foam Insulation, STYROFOAM SIS™ Brand Structural Insulated Sheathing, Dow polyisocyanurate insulation, STYROFOAM™ Brand Spray Polyurethane Foam Insulation, ENERFOAM™ Professional Foam Sealants, FROTH-PAK™ Foam Sealant kit, THERMAX™ Insulation, GREAT STUFF PRO™ Insulating Foam Sealants, and GREAT STUFF™ Insulating Foam Sealant
