STYROFOAM™ supports Aberdeen regeneration project
| Project |

The £250 million Union Square regeneration project in the heart of Aberdeen is the largest mixed-use development in Scotland, containing 56 retail units, 12 catering outlets and the largest multiplex cinema in the city.
Union Square, a Hammerson-backed development built by Miller Construction, also includes a civic square and hotel with conference facilities, and will transform the centre of Aberdeen when it opens in autumn 2009.
Principal roofing contractor on the site is BriggsAmasco, which as part of its role was tasked with sourcing the appropriate insulation for such a landmark project.

| The STYROFOAM Solution |
14,000 m2 of 140mm thick ROOFMATE™ SL-A was supplied direct into the city centre development by Dow Building Solutions over the winter of 2008.
ROOFMATE SL-A is a STYROFOAM extruded polystyrene solution developed to improve thermal efficiency of buildings and help developers achieve BREEAM accreditation. The insulation boards are manufactured with recycled CO2, bringing further environmental benefits beyond energy efficiency.
"We regularly use STYROFOAM products as they not only deliver the excellent insulating properties our clients are looking for, they are easy to cut and install, making them incredibly efficient materials to work with," said Tony Lawther, manager of BriggsAmasco's Glasgow branch. "The boards are also lightweight, easy to stack on a busy construction site and have low water absorption, meaning our installation specialists find them very practical and user-friendly."
ROOFMATE SL-A boards are unaffected by conditions such as wide fluctuations in temperature and repeated freeze/thaw cycles, making them the ideal solution for insulating flat, inverted roofs. They come in a range of thicknesses from 100mm to 180mm, and have shiplap edges to enable a tight seal between boards.
