Dow STYROFOAM™ Insulation Board Lead the Tide of Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo
Shanghai, July 15, 2009 - On the occasion of the 300-day countdown to the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, Dow's STYROFOAM™ Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) Insulation Board, an energy-saving and environment-friendly product family, formally made its way into French Rhône-Alpes Pavilion, one of the Best Practices for Urban Construction Projects of the Expo. It will also help the Pavilion become a model of comfortable environment and take the lead in energy conservation and environmental protection. As of July 8, 2009, a formal cooperation agreement was signed between Dow and the Rhône-Alpes Pavilion.

As an opening-to-the-world window at the Shanghai Expo, the 2,500-square meter Rhône-Alpes Pavilion is built on local practices that have been successfully promoted in Europe and worldwide. Moreover, a permanent building will be erected by the Région Rhône-Alpes in the Expo as a showcase of its technologies and expertise in ecological energy, ecological construction and urban lighting. The design of the Pavilion has two focuses: one is space availability and quality of life, and the other is energy efficiency. The Pavilion has set a very high goal for energy efficiency, which is supposed to be achieved through close collaborations between architects, institutes and industrial partners of the project. After strict screenings, Dow's STYROFOAM™ XPS Insulation Board was finally chosen as the thermal insulation materials for roofs, basement walls and ground, thus enabling the Pavilion to consume less energy, i.e. less than 100 KW per square meter per year (equal to energy consumption of a newly-built normal apartment).
"With excellent heat resistance and viscosity, proper air permeability and good stability in size, Dow's STYROFOAM™ XPS Insulation Board successfully entered into the 'Shanghai Eco House Projects' of the Expo not long ago. Its contribution to Rhône-Alpes Pavilion once again reflects the recognition that it has received from the industry and the Organizing Committee of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. Energy efficiency of the building and sustainable development that the Rhône-Alpes Pavilion pursues perfectly fit in with the concept of energy saving and environmental protection that Dow has long been promoting. We sincerely hope that we will be able to work together with architects, institutes and industrial partners to optimize the design plan and keep the Pavilion in line with the goal of energy efficiency and the theme of the Expo - 'Better City, Better Life,'" said Mr. Yan Ji, National Sales Manager of Dow Building Solutions.
