Safe & Durable: Dow XPS EIFS Debuts at Dalian Trade Show
Dalian, China - April 12, 2009
Under the background of “boosting domestic demands, sustaining economic growth and building harmonious society”, the China National Interior Decoration Association (CIDA) and the Dalian Municipal People’s Government co-hosted “the 14th China International Construction & Decoration Materials (Articles) Exhibition” on April 9-12, 2009 at Dalian Xinghai exhibition center. Liu Yan, assistant mayor of Dalian, Liu Yi, executive vice-president of CIDA and well-known enterprises including Dow Chemicals attended the event. To provide a safer and more durable wall insulation solution for the market, Dow launched a complete set of Exterior Insulation and Finishing Systems (EIFS) that integrated a series of Dow products including insulation boards, cellulose ether, redispersible emulsion powder and interface treatment agent, drawing great attentions from participants at the exhibition. As the most influential building materials exhibition and fair in Northern China, the 4-day exhibition attracted 316 enterprises and 87,000 participants from both home and abroad.
Mr. Liu Yan, assistant mayor of Dalian, met with representatives of Dow Building Solutions. He visited Dow’s exhibition booth and inquired detailed information on the makeup of Dow XPS insulation board and its advantages over traditional insulation materials. Mr. Liu also expressed his blessing that Dow continues speeding up its pace in Dalian and Northeast China.

For the past 60 years, Dow has been regarded as the inventor and leader in the energy-efficient building field. With its over 60-year successful experience dedicated in the market, Styrofoam™ Insulation Boards are now applied in 21 million buildings in the US, Europe, Japan, Asia Pacific and other areas around the world, saving some $10 billion worth of energy each year. Styrofoam™ possesses long thermal resistance value, outstanding viscosity, suitable permeability and great dimensional stability, which are the four major highlights of Dow’s XPS Boards in exterior wall insulation applications. In cold regions, freeze-thaw durability is particularly important for insulation materials. However, it has been proven that the insulation performance of Styrofoam™ XPS board almost keeps unchanged before and after freeze-thaw cycles.
As for system durability, Dow actively cooperated with China Academy of Building Research and National Center for Quality Supervision & Test of Building Engineering and established a durability test method which is stricter than what is provided for in the specifications in 2008. Dow’s XPS EIFS has successfully passed 1,080 aging cycle test, the first system to pass such test nationwide.
With outstanding performance and high reputation for Dow’s durable coatings, color slurry and ceramic tile faces in the highly competitive market in Northeast China, many EIFS systems adopting Styrofoam™ Insulation Boards were widely used in residential communities such as Yuan ZhongYuan and New Hope Garden in Dalian, and Vanke Rancho Sansa Fe Villa, Goldenfield International Garden, New World Garden and Riverside New City in Shenyang.
With the full implementation of the strategy to revitalize old industrial bases in Northeast China, a new round of urban construction and rural urbanization in the region will bring tremendous opportunities to the building materials and real estate industries. As the global leading provider of energy efficiency solutions, Dow pays high attention to the Northeast China market and commits itself to providing customers with all kinds of leading energy-saving materials and solutions.
