Dow Tops 2008 Annual Review of Responsible Real Estate & Hi-Tech Buildings

Beijing, China – December, 2008

Benefiting from the new policy portfolios introduced by central government, local administrations and banks, China’s sluggish real estate market, used to be prosperous in September and October, may trend to warm up. On Dec. 21st 2008, China Real Estate Association and China Energy-Saving & Emission Reduction Industry Alliance co-hosted “2008 City, Housing and Real Estate Industry Summit & Annual Review of Responsible Real Estate and Hi-Tech Buildings” in the Great Hall of People under the guidance of Ministry of Construction (MOC). More than 300 people attended the event, VIPs including Cheng Siwei, former vice-chairman of National People’s Congress, Wang Tiehong, general engineer of MOC, Song Chunhua, chairman of China Real Estate Association and corporate representatives of Dow Chemicals and other winning companies. This event aims at getting the industrial players ready for the predicament ahead, integrating pertinent industrial resources, promoting energy efficiency in construction and pushing forward the development of indemnificatory accommodation policy. By leveraging its profound brand influence and outstanding energy efficiency solutions, Dow wins two major awards - “2008 Global Testimonial Brands for Energy Efficiency” and “2008 China Testimonial Enterprises for Energy Efficiency & Emission Reduction in Buildings (Wall Insulation)”.

Cheng Siwei delivered a report titled “Opportunities and Development of China Real Estate Industry in Financial Crisis” in which he pointed out that real estate remains the pillar industry of national interest and people’s livelihood. Moreover, with the State government currently shifting focus on people’s livelihood, real estate market would become more consumer-driven, rather than speculation-driven. In addition, Wang Tiehong made a keynote on patterns transformation of economic development on construction. He believed that obvious periodic results had been achieved, leading to further favourable probe into energy conservation buildings with market mechanism. Meanwhile, it was imperative to improve indemnificatory accommodation policy so as to assure everyone of satisfactory residence. The annual review mainly include eight awards, namely 2008 China Responsible Real Estate Developers, Person of The Year, Energy Saving & Emission Reduction Residence and Brands, etc. By adopting Dow’s XPS Exterior Insulation and Finishing Systems (EIFS) as one of its strength, Hangzhou Xinyu Residence also wins an award of “2008 China Testimonial Residence for Energy Efficiency & Emission Reduction”.

In early 2008, MOC put forward a guideline of “promoting green buildings”. In China’s newly-introduced RMB4 trillion investment plan, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has committed its investment of RMB4 trillion on stimulating domestic demand, while preventing high energy-consuming and heavy-polluting projects from bouncing back. In the MOC’s investment allocation plan, energy saving modification of buildings is a new investment focus, which will no doubt provide a broader platform for Dow Chemicals. Yan Ji, Sales Manager of Dow Building Solution Greater China, said: “The complicated economic situation may well be a good opportunity to consolidate the real estate market in China. We were once in the seller’s market with a mix of both good and bad buildings. After reorganization, more attention will be paid to the quality of buildings. Real estate developers and building material suppliers, who attach importance to quality, will have more chances.” He underlined that energy conservation buildings would be a foreseeable trend in China. Only through innovation of energy saving technology and promotion of “green buildings”, could the smooth fulfilment of China’s national energy saving and emission reduction goals be strongly guaranteed. As the world’s leading solution provider for energy efficiency, Dow takes the responsibility and contributes in this industry.
